But apart from all the labels, I am a Registered Dietitian who helps individuals identify and treat the root cause of their health conditions and finally reach their health goals. My approach focuses on balancing blood sugar levels, as I believe blood sugar instability is the root cause of almost all health conditions.
My Story
Just a few years ago, I was a high-strung Master's degree nutrition student who was constantly following the 'eat less, move more approach' to weight loss. For me, this looked like weight training and cardio for 1-2 hours daily (no days off) and no more than 1200 calories per day. To be sure I did not exceed this limit, I ate mostly processed, fat-free foods. Because, of course, I was taught that eating fat and too many calories would make me gain weight.
This unsustainable way of living obviously caught up to me. Panic attacks and rumination were the norm, I couldn't stop thinking about my cheat *weekends*, and I just wasn't comfortable in my body. I was bloated, had very little muscle, had major skin issues, and had barely any energy to much (after working out, of course).
As I was studying to be a nutrition 'expert', I couldn't help but wonder why this approach was not working for me. I mean, my job was to know all of the answers about weight loss. Not only was I NOT losing weight, but I was irritable and hungry - ALL. THE. TIME. This drove me to dig deeper into factors that contributed to weight loss. I knew it couldn't be solely based on calories because let me tell ya - I was definitely in a calorie deficit.
Balancing My Roots
As I took my health into my own hands, I used my nutrition education and skills to research alternative therapies in order to get to the root cause of what I was dealing with. Specifically, I found which nutrients can help (and worsen) anxiety and stubborn weight loss, and I was successfully able to tailor a diet based on my goals, my health conditions, and my nutrient needs. This put my anxiety into remission and, at the same time, helped me get into the best shape of my life - no crazy calorie restriction, no fake food, and no unrealistic goals.
The key factor in my approach is balancing your blood sugar. Balancing my blood sugar, my root cause, helped me not only reach my own goals, but applying this approach to my clients has allowed me to help hundreds finally reach their goals, as well.
